What is brella?
brella is an eco-friendly, sustainable umbrella that is designed to grow plants on the umbrella itself utilizing the rainwater it collects on the surface. The concept brings speculative elements to what is an ordinary, essential item for people on a rainy day, by retaining the umbrella’s practicality but also adding climate-friendly & aesthetically beautiful components.
Inspiration
Research.
The initial idea of brella flourished from a popular sustainable practice that I found used at many homes called rainwater harvesting. This practice collects rainwater from a surface and collects it to use at a later time for other essential needs.
It is typically found in roof systems or hard ground surfaces and provides a lot of benefits as an alternative water source.

Bringing brella to life.
Many may wonder how someone would hold an umbrella covered with plants and how it would look in a realistic setting. These photographic collages were created to answer some of these uncertainties and are meant to be fantastical & visually poetic.
Seed Packaging.
Along with brella, there will be four seed collections available, containing a different plant seeds from monstera plant to black-eyed susan.
